What is SeraQuant?

SeraQuant is an instrument for the quantification of PSA and Hemoglobin samples in the Forensic Biology.

What does SeraQuant exactly do?

Many forensic laboratories work with SERATEC® PSA Semiquant and SERATEC® HemDirect tests detecting the presence of semen and human blood. SeraQuant improves the qualitative analytic results of these tests by providing a quantitative and automatically documented result.

Why can it be important to work with SeraQuant in addition to PSA Semiquant and HemDirect?

Both tests provide a qualitative, i.e. “yes or no” result, and the conclusion about the presence of semen or human blood is made by a visual examination of the result lines. However, a decision by the naked eye is quite subjective and can lead to certain doubts, especially in cases of weak result lines. SeraQuant is able to accurately differentiate between zero values, i.e. negative and weak positive results. It is a full automatic system that provides a computer-aided, objective analysis of PSA and Hemoglobin with a higher sensitivity and the ability to precisely determine the amount of PSA and Hemoglobin in extracts.

What about the documentation of results?

SeraQuant software includes a database for the data documentation and presentation. The system is able to automatically save and manage membrane screenshots as a part of result protocols with all necessary details required by forensic laboratories. You do not need to document and store your results separately. SeraQuant enables a quick and permanent access to all the data ever stored.

How does a SeraQuant system look like?

SERATEC® SeraQuant is a hardware-software-system that consists of a SeraQuant device, a Shuttle XPC and some small SeraQuant accessories like cables, calibration tools etc. The Shuttle XPC is a personal computer, configured in accordance with the special SeraQuant requirements. The SeraQuant software is already pre-installed and ready for use. You will need a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse to start working with the system.

What is the main principle of SeraQuant?

Different concentrations show different color intensity. SeraQuant quantifies the intensity of the colored bands in the cassette result window with the help of a calibration curve.

We are a non-forensic lab and do not work with PSA and Hemoglobin tests. We would like to quantify other parameters like drugs of abuse or luteinizing hormone. Can SeraQuant quantify other parameters?
